Businesses and residences alike decorate for the holiday season. As I become more aware of ‘stuff’ around me, I also have become aware of things that could and should be recycled. The issue isn’t just about reducing the amount of waste that is created but how do you deal with what you have. I have a string of lights sitting at home waiting to be recycled but I had no idea where I could do that so I asked the question on twitter “Where can I recycle my X-mas lights?” and the Recycling Council of BC got back to me in minutes.
RCBC has a handy tool called the Recylepedia which helps you figure out where you can take the less than usual suspects over the holiday season (and more).
Return-it also has useful information on beverage and electronics recycling and Metro Vancouver has a holiday campaign called Make Memories Not Garbage where you can find e-Cards and tips and ideas on how to reduce waste this holiday season.
Let us know how you’re having a greener Christmas this season. We’re happy to share tips and resources.
Happy Holidays everyone,
