Vancity Supports Sustainable Business Engagement Through Burnaby Board of Trade’s
Award-winning Pledge for a Sustainable Community

Burnaby, BC –December 12, 2016 –  Local community credit union, Vancity has provided a community grant of $7,000 to help support the Burnaby Board of Trade’s award-winning Pledge for a Sustainable Community project.
The local project supports organizations in the community by helping them to reduce their environmental footprint and reap cost saving benefits while promoting their commitment to the local initiative.
With mutual organizational goals of helping businesses to thrive while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and  sustainable engagement within the community, the BBOT’s Environmental Sustainability Manager, Tessa Vanderkop and Vancity’s local branch and Community Investment teams will work together in 2017 to develop sustainability programming and business support for Vancity business members and BBOT Pledge members.
Paul Holden says, “We are thrilled to have this level of support and collaboration with Vancity in engaging our membership and businesses in our community. With this support we can help more businesses to take first and next steps to becoming more environmentally sustainable. It’s this level of collaboration that can really drive results and change.”
“Many businesses recognize the benefits of advancing their environmental performance. However, finding the tools and support to make smart decisions can be daunting. The BBOT Pledge for Sustainability is a practical tool. Together with engagement and advice, BBOT and Vancity aim to leverage this tool to help local businesses to thrive by enhancing their eco-efficiency,” says Tony Ciulla, Community Branch Manager, Vancity.
