Vancity Helping to Green the Pacific National Exhibition
There’s lots of exciting things going on with Vancity and the venerable summer fun destination The Pacific National Exhibition. At 103 years young the PNE has formed a multi- year strategic partnership with Vancity to green the fair’s operations. Last year Vancity provided $237.4 million in financing within the green energy and environment sector province-wide, and millions towards greening food systems. The PNE is focusing on three key areas waste (think composting to create rich soil and eliminating styrofoam from food vendors), water and electricity (think donut oil to power rides).
Kicking off the fair and the collaboration Vancity and the PNE held a contest to win family passes and at the same time invited feedback on how to help make the fair more sustainable. There are some great ideas in there which you can read in theTyee article.
Vancity is also celebrating Vancity Member Day August 29th. Members & a guest can celebrate being a part of Vancity & enjoy discounted admission to The Fair: just $5 each (a savings of $15 each). (Psst: RSVP & tell your friends on Facebook here on the Vancity Member Day Event Page
While there visit Eco Alley a green zone area of The Fair that showcases the Fair’s current green initiatives with a strong focus on recycling & composting, engaging visitors in generating new ideas & proposing additional ways the PNE can “go green.”
