The Grand Villa Casino and Delta Hotel was one of the first of Burnaby businesses to Take the Pledge for a Sustainable Community when the program soft-launched in the fall. One of its commitments has been to work on numerous lighting projects in partnership with BC Hydro (also a Pledge taker,) to reduce their energy usage. With high-profile display lights in hard-to-reach places, the Grand Villa Casino was budgeting $23,000 a year to keep up with burnouts. Switching to LEDs resulted in brighter lights, energy savings, and a 1.8-year payback. Grand Villa Casino has also installed four electric vehicle charging stations available for guests to use. Since March 2013 it’s estimated they have helped cut carbon emissions by 844 kg and save 99 gallons of gasoline. A big thanks to Grand Villa Casino and BC Hydro for sharing this story.
