Hemlock Named Canada’s Most Environmentally Progressive Printer – Again!

News Release:

SEVENTH YEAR AS CANADA’S MOST ENVIRONMENTALLY PROGRESSIVE PRINTER

Burnaby, BC – December 3rd, 2012 – Hemlock Printers was once again honoured for both its leadership in sustainability and for the quality of its work at the Canadian Printing Awards. Hosted by PrintAction Magazine, the Canadian Printing Awards showcases excellence in quality printing, environmental initiatives and industry contribution. Hemlock’s CEO Dick Kouwenhoven was in attendance on November 29th, 2012 in Toronto, Ontario.

Hemlock won a total of seven awards, including three environmental awards and four for outstanding printing projects in a variety of categories. Hemlock received Gold for the seventh consecutive year in the category Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Company. Hemlock’s recent Green-e certification and the continued growth of Zero, its Carbon Neutral program, were important accomplishments recognized by the judges this year. Hemlock also won the top two awards in the category of Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Project – Gold for The North Face 2011 Holiday Gear Guide and Silver for UBC’s Registration and Orientation Guide 2012. Both projects utilized Hemlock’s Zero program and were printed on high-post consumer recycled stock – 30% and 50% respectively. These project attributes combined with the quality of the finished product helped put these projects on top this year.

“Congratulations to all of the winners at this year’s Canadian Printing Awards. The quality of the work on display at the event was stunning and evidence of the variety and quality of print being produced across the country,” said Dick Kouwenhoven. “We’re honoured by the seven awards we received this year, including recognition for our sustainability efforts as a company. Our industry has made some incredible strides in recent years and Hemlock will continue to be an active player in a number of areas, including taking meaningful action on climate change.”

This recognition is only possible because of Hemlock’s collaboration with its customers – the work Hemlock is entrusted to produce continually demonstrates environmental progress and product quality can go hand in hand. Hemlock is proud to also have been recognized for the following projects:

  • Gold – Books: Protecting Wisdom: Tibetan Book Covers from the Maclean Collection
  • Silver – Stationery: Salish Artist Card
  • Silver – Direct Mail: Rocky Mountain Equipment
  • Bronze – Catalogues: The North Face 2011 Holiday Gear Guide
