Green Revolution: Grand Villa Casino’s biogas project

192f5e5f5d6b470ecae8dda887aee87eBBOT pledge member Grand Villa Casino,  winner of the City of Burnaby’s 2014 Environmental Sustainability Award for Business Stewardship and shortlisted for this year’s Burnaby Business Excellence Awards for Environmental Excellence, is also the first casino in Canada to switch to purchasing and using renewable biogas with FortisBC. Grand Villa’s parent company Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd., has saved over $300,000 cumulatively over the past 5 years) by implementing sustainability measures across their sites. Gateway is also ensuring energy efficiency remains a priority in the company by addressing education and awareness of their employees. From mandating a corporate-wide Energy Policy to revising their orientation programs to target newly-hired staff, all members of Gateway Casinos are finding new ways to conserve energy at work. In a recent article in the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Sounding Board Scott Gramm writes the Casino has also recently invested in new low flow faucet aerators, a high efficiency natural gas fryer and convention over is further helping to reduce the Casinos energy footprint.
