The Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) is pleased to announce the launch of a unique partnership with Climate Smart and Vancity to deliver a series of training programs, certification, tools and data to help twenty BBOT members to lower their greenhouse gas emissions through waste and energy reduction strategies.
Vancity has made available twenty scholarships ($500 per business) to reduce Climate Smart program fees for participating businesses and to enable Climate Smart to deliver programming and training in partnership with the BBOT’s Pledge for a Sustainable Community program.
The BBOT launched the Pledge for a Sustainable Community (bbotpledge.ca) last year with the objective of providing a platform and resources for its members to become more environmentally sustainable. In 2014 the BBOT has expanded that objective to build more strategic partnerships in support of that goal.
“The Pledge for a Sustainable Community platform is a fantastic resource for our members and the community. But it’s important for us as a business association to provide additional tools to our Pledge Takers and members to help them measure, reduce and quantify their sustainability performance. A partnership with Vancity and Climate Smart has given us the tools to provide additional value and benefit to our members as we strive to become a more sustainable community.” CEO Paul Holden
“Vancity has generated demonstrable financial and environmental benefits through our GHG management. The Climate Smart program targets these outcomes, so we’re pleased to support local businesses to participate in this program, and we commend Burnaby Board of Trade on their leadership,” says Maureen Cureton, Vancity’s Green Business Manager.
Climate Smart president, Elizabeth Sheehan, says ” I applaud the Burnaby Board of Trade and Vancity Credit Union for their pay it forward leadership.” says Elizabeth Sheehan, Climate Smart Co-founder. “Climate Smart businesses are able to convert insights into concrete cost savings, operational efficiencies, staff engagement and new top line sales.” Case studies from a sample of 40 Climate Smart businesses show annual cost savings of $1 million and 5,000 tonnes reduced annual greenhouse gas emissions.”
Businesses interested in participating in the Climate Smart program can visit bbotpledge.ca or call Tessa Vanderkop at 604 412- 0100 ext 1107.
