Burnaby Board of Trade Pledge
Burnaby Board of Trade Pledge

Thank you to those who participated in our webinar on October 13, 2021 on the Municipal Single-Use Item Bylaw Harmonization.

At this webinar, we provided context on provincial and federal government action on single-use items and the process that has led to this proposed harmonized approach. We also encouraged input from participants on Metro Vancouver’s work to develop a harmonized regional approach for municipal single-use item bylaws which aims to:

Reduce confusion for residents
Improve efficiency for businesses

Later this year or early 2022, Metro Vancouver staff will report to the Zero Waste Committee and Board with a recommended harmonized approach for municipal single-use item bylaws. The report will include feedback received through the webinar, questionnaire, and subsequent communications.
Webinar participants will be advised when the recommendations are posted on Metro Vancouver’s website.

Development and implementation of single-use item bylaws is within the authority of each municipality. As such, each municipality will determine whether to develop bylaws and the extent to which they align with any regional approach.
